On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May, Joe, Max and Tyla from our Company age group took part in the Waltham Walk, a challenge expedition which takes place each year in the Essex countryside.
It was our first time having young people take part in the event in any capacity since 2016, and our boys were using it as a training opportunity ahead of taking part in a future expedition as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Over the two days they had to use their map reading skills to navigate between a series of checkpoints, walking about 9 miles on each day. They scored points based on their time taken to complete each leg, and at each checkpoint there was a team challenge to gain extra points from.
Overnight they had to camp, setting up their tent themselves and preparing their own meals for Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast.
Our team performed extremely well throughout the weekend and came 7th out of 10 in their Mini Trek category, which is really good for a team with no experience at all of the event, as many in that position find it challenging without outside help. A very big well done to each of the boys!
